By the way, the distance between the mound and the plate in this situation is the traditional 60 FT, 6 Inches.

  1. 70 mph = 369,600 feet per hour

    369,600 feet per hour = 6160 feet per minute

    6160 feet per minute = 102.667 feet per second

    Something traveling at 102.667 feet per second would travel 60.5 feet in .59 seconds.

    But don't forget, the 60 feet 6 inches is the distance from the plate to the pitching rubber.  The ball is actually released from the hand about 3 or 4 feet closer to the plate.

    In that case, assuming the ball is only traveling 57 feet in the air, the ball would travel from the pitchers hand to the catchers glove in about .56 seconds.
