The boyfriend and I were hoping to go England in two- three weeks time ( I told him to apply for the passport sooner but he is someone who leaves things to the last minute and assumes things will be fine) does anyone have any idea when the passport is likely to arrive? all help is greatly appreciated.

  1. This depends on how you apply. For applicants in Canada, if you apply in person at a Passport Canada office, you can expect your Passport in about 10 business days; if you apply by mail, it will take about 20 business days AFTER they have received your application. For applicants from the U.S., allow about 20 business days. For applicants in the abroad category, it will take approximately 15 business days.

  2. Usually a month, but you can rush it at the office. Is about 20 extra bucks.

  3. My sister-in-law had to wait 3 months for hers, which was too late, but they let her go with a special birth certificate (I think, or just her regualr birth certificate), they will make exceptions for people who have applied for a passport but haven't recieved it yet.  Ask your local office or call, they can tell you what you can do if it hasn't arrived in time.

  4. Last year I had to get one the same day.I went to the office in London,Ont. and it cost me $170 plus pictures but I got it in less than 3 hours.Mail in usually takes about 10 -14 days and costs about $80.

  5. It took me 2 months to receive mine by mail. But they do have a service that if you pay extra you get it faster. But then they ask for a reason. If you have a plane ticket already it might help. And also it is faster to go to an office, so if there is one in your area you can go directly. You can find information on the website : http://www.ppt.gc.ca/index.aspx?lang=eng

  6. If you mail it in, it takes about 4 weeks and then delivery time.

If you are really serious about getting your passport and want to go on the trip, your boyfriend will NEED to get time off.  If you do your passport application by Epass, print it out and go to the Passport Office, it helps speed things up.  You can also help the situation by paying the extra $10 to pick up the passport rather than worry about delivery time from when they send back the completed passport.  (you have to drop off your passport in person to be eligible for pick up)

Dropping it off in person also allows a passport clerk to check your picture in case they cant use it, and go through the application to ensure any key spots (like signatures) arent missed.
