I had a birth control shot in the middle of June in case my boyfriend and I got too funky. I regret getting the birth control because I have spotting that is too light for a tampon, but I hate wearing pads or pantiliners, because then I can't go swimming. How long will it take for the birth control to not just wear off, but to COMPLETELY leave the system, and for me to have regular periods again? Before the birth control shot, I had periods every month for about 8 days, with which I was fine. Will my periods ever be the same again? I'm 18.

  1. it may take a long time for you to get you regular cycle back because your shot interupts it.

  2. Depo is no longer effective after 12 weeks but you can have effects of it for as long as a year. It is completely normal to have spotting for the six months and generally it goes away with continued use.
