I am brand new at having a female cat that actually got pregnant and gave birth to kittens. All other cats that I have ever had in my lifetime have all been fixed. Yesterday, my son and I discovered that our female cat had given birth to 1 kitten just before we both left to go to work. After I got home, I found that she had given birth to a second kitten. My significant other is extremely curious as to how long the birthing process is before we can determine exactly how many kittens I will end up with. Both the mom and dad live with me; I had received the both of them last year fresh off a litter from a former neighbor of mine. This is her first pregnancy. I have looked all over my apartment looking for other kittens that might be hidden somewhere, but haven't found any others.

  1. HONEY.. I HAD A CAT DO JUST THAT ... GAVE BIRTH ON SATURDAY AND LATE SUNDAY NIGHT POPPED OUT ANOTHER AND THE PLACENTA.... IT ALL DEPENDS ON THE CAT AND HOW EXHAUSTED SHE BECOMES... IT IS VERY PAINFUL FOR THEM AND SHOULD TALK 24 HOURS MAX.

  2. Just like people, it can vary from minutes to hours.  However if she still does not seem to be finished by now, she may be in labor trouble and should see a vet asap.  It could be that two is all she’s going to have, but if there are any more inside her that haven’t been born by now she may need some medical help quickly before you lose her.

I do hope you’ll do the right thing and have her spayed when the kittens are eating solid food on their own.
