  1. it's only been 2 days, and your hammy has probably only just settled in. be gentle and leave your hand in the cage so that he can get used to the sight and smell of your hand.

soon, he will learn that you are not going to do him any harm so whenever he touches you, move your hand a little to show that you're alive.

when he feels more comfortable he will even hop onto your hand so now you can pick him up. stroke him and talk to him softly.

this takes time, so be patient. one of mine got used to me within days, whereas its been months and my other is still wary of me.

just remember, never force your hamster to do something and dont grab him. when you want to handle him, make sure he can see you coming. otherwise if you surprise him, he may bite.

good luck and enjoy your new hammy! =)

  2. just keep picking it up use a glove till he stops biting

  3. um im not sure when me and my little sister got our hamsters we were picking some up and none of them bit us and the one that we chose got used to us at the store! so im not sure he  probably doesnt like you or you did something wrong to him or hes just cranky or something but just pet him and then itll probably get used to you and like you :)

  4. you need to spend time petting him and making sure he gets use to you. don't leave him alone or he will only become worse. just keep petting him and get him use to your presence. i did this with my hammy and it only took a week for him to get use to me.

    hope this helps =]

  5. You shouldn't have held him for the 1st 2 days. Just talk to her while she's eating and reach your hand in. Hold her everyday.  She'll come around :) I hold my un-tamed hamsters in the bathtub, just in case they get away. Good luck!

  6. it all depends on how often you hold him and if you hold him properly, eventually he will get used to you and your scent.

  7. Done properly, about a week. (Though each hammy is different. My current one was fine on day one, but others took closer to a month. So it varies).

At first, dont bother it at all. Give it a couple of days to get used to it's new home. Find it's sleeping place, it's hiding place, it's playplace, etc...

After it has settled in a bit, go sit near the cage. Talk low & soothingly. Keep your hand near the cage, let it get used to your smell.

Your first attempt to reach in the cage should be a day or two later. Do it at night (when they're awake), move slowly (remember:prey animal), talk softly... let him smell the back of your hand. Pet him with your finger..

Then bribe him. Give him a treat.

Do this another night or two, then you should be homefree.

(At anytime, feel free to skip the remaining steps if he is a quicker adjusting hamster, some are. Or likewise show more patience for a more mistrusting fellow)
