How long does it take for a hamster to die after eating chocolate?

Chocolate won't always kill the hamster, it depends on the amount eaten and the hamsters age as it affects their heart.

If the hamster is young and didn't have too much it will probably be fine. If its old and had a lot then it will get sick very quickly, so it will die within a day or two.

My hamster had something spicy as she decided to climb on to my plate and l**k curry remains, she was absolutely fine! just give them lots of water.

It depends how much it ate, if it ate a little bit then it isnt as big as a chance for it to die. But just keep an eye on it and make sure it doesnt act strange, and try not to let it happen again!!!   GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hamsters do not "die" directly because of eating chocolate or spicy things. Based on the quantities they have had, they would suffer from diarrhea - mild to severe - which until treated, can damage their digestive system and cause them to die.

If you are asking this question becoz your hammy has had a similar food, take him to a vet immediately to make sure that it has not caused any health problem to your hamster.

Please take your animal to your local vet immediately. Dying of food poisoning is a horrible way for your hamster to die. There are things now that vets can do to help the animal, and sometimes they live though it. After this incident, be sure to monitor what your animal eats and what is right next to its cage, they can reach their little paws though and grab things!

Typically they can die within 24 hours if it was a decent amount of the spicy food or chocolate.

Why would you want to know? If you have purpously given that to your hamster thats very horrible. If its aten it by acedent then take it to the vets emmedaletly

It doesn't take long at all.  But it could take 10 minutes, to 3 days.  Sometimes hamsters are lucky and they don't get sick or die, but that's pretty rare.  They die from sweets, spicy things, AND citrus fruits so never feed your hammy oranges or lemons or something like that.
