  1. Why don't you ask the director for a timetable or shooting schedule?

No one besides the crew on the film could answer this question for you, because there are a number of different variables involved. For instance, it depends on the length of the script, the complexity of the scenes (compare a straight monologue to one camera to a fight scene), issues with organising the rest of the cast and crew, filming around other people's timetables (ie. are you shooting in your spare time, or all day every day), budgeting needs, lighting if working outdoors, location choices and permissions.... And that's not counting the inevitable stopping and starting to make sure lighting, sound, set, etc. is all correct, makeup, actors forgetting lines or making any mistakes... etc etc.

Best bet is to ask your director.

  2. I don't know what kind of movie role you got, but if they couldn't tell you when you got hired, I would be worried. The period of time it takes to set up a movie is known as "pre-production."  Sets are designed and built, costumes as well, and the producers and director work with the writer(s) to fine-tune the script, before hiring a casting director to find actors for the roles. Most of this is already figured out before the actors are brought in, because all the work has to match the budget.

With me so far? Once an actor is hired, they're supposed to get some idea of how soon everyone will be ready for the first day of shooting.

Now, mind you, this is with a major studio movie. With smaller, independent films, it could be a lot different. It sounds to me like that's what you're involved in, so your best bet would be to contact the people who hired you  - if you have a way of doing that - and finding out about when shooting might begin.
