I would like to know how long it takes for a single star fish ray which has been cut off or taken away from the starfish to grow into a full new starfish.

  1. First off, not every starfish can regenerate from a single ray. It depends on the species if certain vital organs are kept in the arms. Secondly, most species require part of the central ring of the body present as well in order for regeneration into a new creature. Then, the process can take from a few months to a couple of years to completely regenerate the entire rest of the animal (depending on size, number of arms, etc.) if other parts aren't lost due to accident, injury or predation during the process.
