How long? Also It would be nice if you can describe the stages it goes through.

  1. I never take mine out.  They do much better if left in the main tank.  Less stress of being moved around and less chance of disease.  The strong fry will hide in plants etc and you end up with healthy adults.

You can put them back anytime but if you are set on keeping the separate and trying to save every fish then you'll need to wait until they are bigger than your biggest fishes mouth.  They don't really go through any stages, they just keep getting bigger and developing more color.  Growth really depends on the environment they are in.

  2. I'd put it into the aquarium after about 4-6 weeks.
