How long does it take for baby shrimp to grow up and become "edible"?

I was just wondering how long it takes to grow a shrimp? From being spawned to being on the plate? Maybe then I'll understand why my favorite dinner food, shrimp, in South Carolina are so expensive!

IF you're super cleaver and have some space you can develop an Aqua Farm

As for the cost,, think,, the hundred foot + boat,, the many deck hands..docking fees permits license and health inspections  

the cost of fuel. insurance  and then,, they are sold to an auction processor they prepare and freeze,, and again sold at auction to wholesalers,, then sell to the retail market,, then we are stuck $$$

Remember shrimp and Prawns are graded $$$ by the count per pound..I imagine the tiny ones are a year and (I don't the numbers)
