If I needed to steralize a soother (dummie) without the steralizing unit and put it in a cup and poured boiling water over it, how long would I have to leave it in the water for all the germs to die?

cheers!

  1. As soon as the water begins to boil, the bacteria begin to die.But in order to be very sure, allow to boil for about 5-6 minutes.

  2. after the water boils die died but to be shure keep it like 5 minutes and there you go good fresh water without they litle buggers

  3. 5-10 minutes.

  4. These days, it is recommended to NOT sterilize dummies, bottles, etc. Simply washing them as you do your normal dishes is fine. Babies are developing too many problems later in life by not being exposed to enough bacteria!

  5. The water has to be boiling hot, it will sterilize the dummy in 1 minute

  6. bacteria dies when the water reaches a certain temp. usually140 to 180 degrees

  7. There are many ways to sterilize baby feeding and soother items.  The time commonly used is 10 minutes of boiling water.  Now don't get confused by many articles on the subject.  Often the temperature used is in Celsius 100C, this is the same as the American 212F, Fahrenheit Degrees.  Both are the boiling point of water.

    So 10 minutes at 100C or 212F.

There are other methods to use, but keep in mind chemicals that kill bacteria will harm your clothing, your hands and could even damage your vision pertinently if they get in you eyes for just a matter of  seconds.

If you check out the link I have included, keep in mind Sodium Hypochlorite is bleach check label for strength.  Isopropyl Alcohol 70% is rubbing alcohol.  Sometimes it is only 35%.  Again look at the label.  Alcohol will grow weaker quickly by evaporating, this is why the article recommends to change it daily.  Remember to rinse the articles throughly after using chemical cleaning.  Tap water is OK if you live in an area where it is chlorinated and free of infectious bacteria.

Good luck, I hope this helps.
