AVs are depended to the number of files, the total size of all the files, the amount of computer memory and CPU utilzation you have available.

If you are doing things on your computer, your scan will take MUCH longer because CPU and Memory is being used for things other than the AV scan.  This causes the AV to have to start use the Page File which can REALLY slow everything down
