How long does it take for car insurance companies to settle?

I had an accident in august 2006. a lady crossed the center line and hit me my insurance company would not even start the work on my car w/o my deductible. Now i'm trying to go through hers and i'm getting the run around, I have been quoted 3 different prices from 3 different people at the company. Then I get the papers to sign and the price has changed again. Can someone please HELP, I don't know what else to do.

You should have paid your deductible and gone thru your insurance company.  It would probably be settled by now.  You paid for insurance protection and representation.  Use it !  Don't try to settle this on your own, use your insurance !

Go speak to a lawyer that specialises in non-fault accidents.  They should be able to sort it out for you and claim their costs from the party at blame.

If you insist on going third party, contact a supervisor and politely ask them to explain why the amount of settlement has changed.  It could be that you have some comparative negligence.  You need to be firm, but do not become aggressive, you will not  get anywhere.  Trust me, I was a supervisor for 10 years.  

In my opinion, you should have gone through your own collision coverage.  By now, you could have raised the deductible.  Your insurance company would have recovered what they paid out and your deductible.

FYI - contrary to one post, you cannot sue the insurance company unless they have acted in bad faith.  You sue the driver and owner of the vehicle.  Also, the statute of limitations vary from state to state, it is not necessarily two years.  It could be anywhere from 1-6 years.

You need to do something quickly.  You only have 2 years from the date of the accident to settle with the liable parties insurance company or retain an attorney to protect the statute.  Sounds like to other insurance company is beating around the bush or there's got to be more information to this situation.

It's unlikely that they'll provide assistance on a 3rd party claim, but they can direct you....call the Department of Insurance, they can give some advice or point you in the right direction.  If that doesn't work for you I would consult an attorney.

you can not deal with a insurance co.  get a lawyer and sue h**l out of them and hope that some one is on the jury that has had to deal with them before...there always is....ps...do you see now why there should not be any restrictions on sueing these pieces of c**p at all!   d**n republicans
