How long does it take for grass to grow?

Question

If I planted regular plant seeds into my dirt filled front yard first thing tomorrow morning and watered it daily..

When will I start seeing green?

Better yet.. When will my lawn be full of grass??

you will see some results within a few weeks, but depending on the weather and your location in may or may not come in full this time of year....you need to have it planted and then fertilized.

in late fall and then in the early spring if you have the lawn aerified and overseeded you will see tremendous results....

just remember to water, water, water

You will have a ok yard by the end of the year but getting a green, thick, weed free yard is a few year process.  Next year you will have to reseed any bare spots,  if you live in the north you should be using Kentucky Bluegrass.  It spreads by underground rhizomes so it will fill in small bare spots over time.   If you live up north just make sure you are using a mix that contains bluegrass, most will have a small amount of ryegrass in them because it only takes a few days for ryegrass to germinate but it can take a month or more for bluegrass to germinate.

Weeds are a sure thing, especially if you didn't use a premium grass seed.  You have to get a pre emergent weed control down in the spring (Scotts with Halts ex.)  and then fertilize and spray any weeds with Ortho Weed B Gone max after that.

Now is a good time to consider putting a sprinkler system in while the yard is still not that great.  Otherwise you are going to have to get up early in the morning (4 am) everyday to water.  It gets tiring over time.

You will start to see results after about 1wk, but it will be about a month, before it starts to look nice, don't forget the birds will eat some of the seed's so put plenty down!
