How long does it take for guinea pigs from ca. 5 weeks old to get used to you?

I have 2 female cavies, but they are really scared of everything, I have them now for a bit longer then a week,, but they are even more scared.

Guinea pigs are naturally nervous animals, since they're prey creatures and therefore on edge.

It takes them well over a week and persistence for them to actually get used to you. You need to show them trust, stroke them, speak to them, be quiet around them, offer them treats- it doesn't just happen.

when i got my girls they were new to the pet store (like it was their first day there) and they were terrified. but it's been 4 months now and we've gotten closer. it just takes time. using treats helps but mine just started so every time im near the cage they want one and i hate to say no but i have to keep them on a schedule so they can get even more used to me. good luck, i hope that helps.

Just speak to them and gradually stroke them..they might always be nervous but its natural..dont worry! Then everntually when you think they are ready put your hand in and try and pick them up. (IT WORKED FOR ME)
