How long does it take for handfed pacific parrotlets to be fully weaned?

is it true they wean faster in groups and is it alright to be weaned at 6weeks and go to a new home?

  1. 6-8 weeks; it really depends on the baby.   I tend to keep mine longer then the 6 weeks.


  2. If they are reared by their parents they are usually fledged by 3 weeks.

    If you take them from the nest at 10 to 15 days like a lot of breeders do, it may take them a few weeks longer. They should be fully weaned by 4 or 5 weeks at the longest.

    Parrotlets should be placed with their new owners at 6 to 10 weeks of age because this is when they bond the best with them.

    I own and breed pacific parrotlets- I specialize in mutations.  6 weeks is always a good age for them to go to their new homes.

    Parrotlets grow and wean very quickly. They are one of the easiest birds to wean off of formula.
