How long does it take for my glycogen to run out running(175lb male)?

Do I need to use a goo gel pack or anything during a minimarathon. Will the gatorade be enough. I weight 175. I have never hit the wall. I was wondering if there was some guideline as to how many calories are needed that wouldn't naturally be carried within the glycogen stores.

Thanks.

  1. It depends on your training and the distance of your race.

I doubt that a mini marathon will deplete you.

Most trained people don't bonk until 20 miles or so and less trained people it is above 10 miles.

  2. 30minutes

  3. Depends on how hard you're running, your training, and how much glycogen is stored in your muscles.

You question makes as much sense as asking "how high is high"

Think of it this way - You always start with a bucket of energy, and you expend that energy however you want, but you only have that bucket.  If you go fast, the bucket gets used up faster; if you go slower, the bucket of energy lasts longer.  The real trick is in YOU listening to your body and figuring out where the bottom is to the bucket.  That part can change from day to day.

    Good Luck
