  1. I had an interview a month and a half ago and they never called me back to tell me I didn't get it.

    b******s.

  2. Ugh.  How frustrating for you.

Sadly, there is no pat answer to this question.  It all depends on the employer, specifically the hiring manager or the HR Dept.

Two possible answers about why they're taking their time to get back to you:

    *  They're just really busy.  With all of the other stuff they have going on in their jobs, the potential hiring of you is just another thing to do.  What seems like FOREVER to you, is like, "didn't we just interview a couple of days ago?" to the employer.  Getting all of the people that need to OK the make the hiring decision, not to mention getting the approval to hire in the first place, can take a long time . . . especially from the candidate's perspective.

    *  You didn't get the job.  It could be that they've selected someone else, and simply have forgotten to call you back to say so.  Nobody likes to be the deliverer of bad news, and calling a candidate to tell him/her s/he didn't get the job is any easy task to shift to the bottom of the "To Do" list.  Yes, it's tacky, unprofessional and frustrating, but I've seen it happen all the time.

So . . . After you interviewed, did you send the hiring manager a thank you note?   If not, DO IT NOW.  It doesn't need to be anything fancy.  Just a little something that says, "Thanks for taking the time to interview me on May 10th.  I enjoyed our discussion, was very impressed by your professional team, and am even more confident that XYZ company is a place I'd like to work.  I look forward to hearing from you."

Good luck!!  I hope you hear something soon!
