How long does it take for the sensitiviy and pain of a permanent dental crown to stop?

I had a regular filling and dental crown done on a tooth. It's exactly one month since fixing the permanent crown. I still feel sensitivity and mild pain when I eat from that side regardless of the food being hot or cold.

I called my dentist 3 times in 3 weeks and she said the pain is normal. But does it take that long for a crown to heal completely and stop the sensitivity and pain? What was your experience and how long did it take for your tooth to stop feeling pain?

Thanks much!

  1. Sometimes it can take 3-4 months.....sometimes the filling is very deep and the pulp is agitated, and takes more time to calm down, that is one of the reasons for the crown.....give it some more time...

As long as it is not getting worse, it will hopefully get better.

  2. It should have stopped by now.  My dentist "desensitized" several of my teeth in the office after about 2 1/2 weeks of sensitivity.  It's a very simply, painless process.  Ask your dentist about it.  If she refuses, start looking for another dentist.

    Hope it gets better!!!
