How long does it take for your returned money to get back on your AMEX gift card? (details here)?

Question

I had a $70 amex gift card (like a debit card for american express)

I bought some Mac makeup which totaled 63.87, but it broke me out. So i returned it ( onto my card) , and then i tried to buy some foundation at sephora but it said i only had 6.13 on my card still (as if i didnt return it). The lady says it takes a while for the returning transaction to be reflected on my card balance. How long will it take for the money to be put back on my card?????
