What are my best travel options (excluding flying as I'd like to see at least a bit of the country ;)

How long would it take to get there and how much would it approximately cost?

I'd have only about 6 days!!! :(

Thanks for your help!!

  1. Fly - it is a lot more scenic on a clear day

  2. Six days is not enough. My daughter came to join me for two weeks, and ended up calling home to give them the option  of counting extra time as her two weeks notice, or holding her job. They held it, but this should give you a clue. She's not a flighty person (finishing up med school next month), but New Zealand is magic. Cars are cheap there. I bought one for $550 and sold it for $650 six months later. Consider buying one for duration and realy seeing the country. You can always pick up some odd jobs to keep you going for a while. In the over all scheme of things you might end up thinking it worth the while.

    Fair winds.........

  3. Not sure but I'm SO jealous!!! Have a fab time - take a mud bath!

  4. By Train is the best way, but unfortunatelly the train no-longer goes to Rotorua. If you can,  travel by a train called the 'Trans-Coastal' from Christchurch to Picton, this is a very scenic trip. At Picton you can connect with the ferry to Wellington. You will need to go by bus the rest of the way.  Graymouth and the glasiers are worth a visit if you have time. Enjoy your trip.

  5. agggeesss. 6 days is sweet. http://www.tranzscenic.co.nz/ or take a bus
