  1. They say at the very most 6 weeks

But thats only if there are problems or backlog delays

it is never usually as long as that .

Normally it will arrive within 2 - 3 weeks at the most .

But as its only a name change they will already have you on the system so that should speed things up alot.

  2. I've gone to the passport office in person before to get it done "while-u-wait", so to speak.

Here's a link about urgent applications:

    http://www.ips.gov.uk/passport/faqs-urge...

  3. About 2 weeks - but it can be anywhere between a day and a week depending on how much you're willing to pay with the ceiling for priority passports being about £90.

  4. The best way ( quickest ) is to go to your local Post Office who offer a passport checking service . Some small POs dont do this but will tell you where is the nearest one that does . Get an application pack . Fill in , in BLACK ink - dont stray your signature outof the box ! . Return to PO and usre their checking service .Will cost you £7 plus the passport fee which you pay to them . Will come  back in ten working days ( not guaranteed but very reliable  and  likely to be in your possession in that time span . If you wish it sooner you will  have to go to the Passport Office - Glasgow - Liverpool - Cardiff - London .
