  1. Plan on at least 6 months.

One community college class that has a high success rate runs 10 weeks. Three hours of in class work each week. Home work is about 8 hours. At the end of three months the majority of students have about 25-30 pages.

By six months they may have about 50 pages.

It is also important that part of the ranking of pages on your site is dependent on the age of the site. A site that is only several weeks old will not be taken seriously by the search engines.

You may have an initial bump in traffic. But it will not always be lasting.

You might even take up to a year to be able to get it well rounded and up to two years to get it up to 241 pages, the max the search engines even look at.

    Hope this helps...

  2. Wordpess has a famous 30-second install.  It's free, and I've installed it several times.  No development needed, just a reasonably capable host.

  3. Yes Wordpress would probably be your best bet

No matter what website you build, it will never be totally complete, when you have a community as you are describing, you will be continually adding more content, so don't worry about how long it takes, just do it, you will know when it's ready to go online, get your group involved in the development, good luck to you!
