  1. Progress depends on you and how often you train.

The belts are used as short term tangible goals and it's usually pretty easy to get the first 4 belts if you train at least 3 times per week.

It should take you roughly 2.5 to 5 years to reach black belt.  If you train 3 or more times, it's less time than if you train 1 or 2 times.

Purple belt is about the 1/2 way point towards black belt.

  2. About 1 1/2 months

  3. It really depends on you. There are certain things you have to learn for each belt. In my school when you've learned everything you need for that belt then you move on. It could be 1 week or 6 months. White to yellow took about a week, yellow to gold took two weeks, yellow to gold took two weeks also, gold to orange takes about a month, then orange the green can take a while because it's your first senior belt and you can have any bend in your kicks or any imperfections in any of your techniques. After that the belts go pretty quickly. Overall it should take about 2 1/5 to 3 years or more to get to black. Any less and it's probably a McDojo. It really depends on you and how quickly you learn and progress.

  4. I hate to tell Bujinkan Ninja this, but he attends a mcDojo with that testing schedule, but you will never cinvince him of that. As for your question it really all depends on the school.

  5. Depends on how often you come to class. Your teacher usually decides when you're ready for promotion, which depends on whether you've learned what you need.

Adults usually progress faster than kids though.
