  1. prob at least 5 years full on surfing and even then you've got to be able to get a wave off the locals

  2. It's not how long but how well.  The drop at Pipe is steep and takes some serious bigger wave practice.  It also takes a certain mental confidence for you to commit on a wave there, plus you need to be able to paddle like crazy.  I would say I haven't seen anyone in the water (at least during the winter) with less then maybe 7 years of serious experience.  About a month or so back I went out on a west swell day when the long right broke.  Even then, the surfers in the water were well experienced.  I think when you feel you can handle it and not get killed, go out.  After your first wave (or wipeout) you will know the score.

  3. Eh!? Didn't I see you on da radio Brah? I might know some of you guys. My dad (HFD), started us at Ali'i beach when we waz four or so. I was a regular at Lani's by thirteen.  Dog s***s and Off the Walls....let the good times roll! You're making me home sick. Pipeline can be like taking a knife to a gunfight. Next time you go Steamers tell Keoki and Mike that Meem's sends her aloha.

  4. 3 hard years
