  1. Wow that really depends it could take a year or even 5 ive been swimming 6 years and i wouldnt even consider myself that great of a swimmer. It depends on how much time your willing to devote to it. I spend 3 hours everyday monday through friday swimming

  2. it really depends

  3. i think once you have mastered the technical and professional basics in swimming, you will do fairly well. it will become second nature to running. usually if you are an athletic person, and in your case, a marathon runner, then you will become a fairly well swimmer since you do have the stamina to prove so. as long as you swim daily. and building muscles in the arm would help since it will help pull the water faster.  yes, and this is great cardio exercise. learning to swim will be varied by the individual. if you are ready to learn then it will be less than a day.

  4. Swimming is real easy if you have no phobia of water, and esp if you are already strong and active in a sport. Decide how long you would LIKE to learn--within the day, 7days, a month or 3 mths? Depends on your belief and your passion.

One  usually learns faster in a mini-group of 2-4 persons. Dont join those large groups of 15-20 persons, esp of different ages. The coach will NOT be able to focus enough attention on your strokes. You must be willing to pay higher fees for individual or mini-group, but it will be worth it as you are able to pick up faster.Learn the breast-stroke first, as it requires less energy and tends to be more useful, e.g a modified one for under-water swimming. Then progress to the front crawl--fastest of all strokes-- and the butterfly.

    Happy watery adventures!

  5. That depends on your current swimming abilities and how much time you put in, and what level you want to achieve.  Swimming is an art and it takes time to master.
