I want to become a riding instructor, well at least have the qualifications. I havn't done any of the nvq's or anything yet and i want to do it with the bhs.

I have already asked a similar question and all i got was people not answering the question but telling me i couldn't do it. I am going to stay on in school, no doubts about it. And go on to uni to become a vet. i have just finished year 11 in school.

  1. You need 500 teaching hours in your portfolio before you can become a BHSAI - so the short answer is it takes 500 hours!  There is of course far more work to it than that.

Prior to taking the AI, you need to take the preliminary teaching test, and you should do some BHS stages to set yourself on the right track.  I think the youngest you can sit the AI is 18, but I may be wrong.  All the info is on the BHS website.

  2. Hi, my daughter is the same age, and heading in a similar direction!

Her riding instructor went the BHS route, and it took him three years, in that time he had to log up so many hours of teaching, hands on, and this went towards his final qualification.

He also has a few years personal experience,( he is about 46) go for it!

    ;oD

  3. you have to start with your BHSAI then move onto your BHSII and then finally your BHSI

lots of training which you cant start untill you are 16 (i think) also not sure you can train part time which you be as you will be at uni why not contact the bhs they will give you all the info and suggest stuff like your stages that you could be doing now, it took me 5 years

  4. There should be nothing stopping you to become an instructor. 99% of it is experience and learning from what you do with your horse. The other 1% is knowing what do with all the nvq's and what not.

    Good luck. =]

  5. don't know

  6. The best riding instructors are the ones with many, many years of experience
