I swim from 8:30-9:45 and then from 10:15-12:45. Both practices are outside in the sun. My question is though how long would it take me to become dehydrated while swimming. And which is better to drink, gatorade or water?

Thanks in advance!*

  1. I'm a swimer and I like water better. Our coaches told us to drink water before and during your workout. About 12 fl. oz..

  2. DRINK BOTH!!!! gatorade will help u but u need water as well cuz your body is made up of 70% water so you need to keep drinking water... i swim and you need to drink during training and heaps after it too!!!

  3. Actually, when you start feeling thirsty, you are begining to get dehydrated.  Gatorade has electrolytes which is good for exercise but because of sugar and calories, I would stick to water.

  4. Personal preference actually. Most people that I swim with on my team prefer Gatorade because of taste. I would go with water however. Becoming dehydrated depends on the person.

  5. go to the gatorade website it has a planner for what u should drink when and how much before, during and after, it replaces what you lose when u sweat

  6. You are actually dehydrated BEFORE you feel thirsty.  Water is something you should always have but you could also do watered down gatorade.
