I am travelling from Venice to Salzburg during the day and if I take the shortest stopover it only allows for 9 minutes. Is this enough time to get from one train to the next?

  1. On a Prague to Amsterdam trip, I've made a 7 minute connection in Berlin (which is a very large station). However, I was comfortable with the short connection time because I knew there was another train a few hours later and my ticket would be good on that train as well.

The nine minute connection should not be a problem if the trains are running on time. Villach isn't a large station. I've never had a problem connecting to Salzburg in Villach (4 or 5 trips), but I took the night train and had time to walk around in the city a bit before my connecting train - very early in the morning. However, I would not count on your train from Italy being on time. In this case, if you miss the 12:11 train from Villach, there is another Eurocity train two hours later. The train between Venice and Villach has a mandatory reservation, but the leg from Villach to Salzburg does not. Your ticket will be good on the next Eurocity train if you miss the first one, but if you have a specific reserved seat, that will be gone. You'll just need to sit in one of the seats that were not reserved.
