  1. matt j has good advice

I would allow 4 hours + stops, as 10mph is easily ridable if you have moderate fitness. Unless its extremely hilly.

    Would take me 2 hours.

  2. For me at least not more than two hours, but it depends on the wind direction, riding against the wind can slow you down even for two more hours while the wind in the back can bring you at least half an hour faster.

  3. Get a few days training in before you go, get used to the bike, especially if you are carrying a load.

The bike may need a service first, there are lots of little things that you might not notice on a short ride that can become a pain on a long ride.

Your leg muscles also need some excercise before you go, and check out your saddle for comfort, fit a pair of strapless toeclips, helps a lot with pedalling, especially for a beginner.

Do not rush at it, I would aim for a leisurely 6 hours the first day, stopping every 2 hours for a break.

And watch out for traffic, be aware at all times.

  4. Exactly 2 hours, 54.8922 minutes.

  5. Even not being fit you should be able to achieve at least 15 km per hour....thats about 10 miles per hour...so about four hours max...unless it is all uphill in which case you may only manage walking pace....so it could take double that.

  6. Depends on fitness & terain.

    It's about 40 miles so:-

If you're in the last 40 miles of a major stage race - Just over an hour!

A good amatuer fit rider can do it in about 1hr 45min

After 2 months of training you could get about 17mph average, giving you a time of about 2hr 20min.

With very little training you should be aiming at <3hrs.

If you are not used to riding , aim at breaking <4hrs.

    Very fast racing > 25mph

    Fast racing > 20mph

Good enough to beat most average riders > 17mph

    Better than average > 14mph

    Average = 10 - 14mph

    Could do better < 10mph

The single most important thing to ride at a decent pace is cadence.  Try to keep your pedal speed above 60 rpm by using your gears - that's what they're there for.  Don't labour in hard gears, keep it spinning.  After all, you don't so the pro's labouring big gears up the Galibier or Ventoux.  You may feel you are strong enough  to drop a gear & push harder but if you are not well over 60rpm - don't.

Or you could build up on EPO, fill your bottle full of Belgian mix & ride like the wind...............

(Only joking - don't do it!)

  7. Depends on how quickly you can ride and what the terrain is like.  60 km is about 40 miles, which would be a full day cycling if you aren't very fit and allowing for breaks.

  8. depends on the route but it is managable in a days cyle quite easy . It is probably a good target for you , pace it 40 / 20 k so you have an easy afternoon , and a break , good luck , how many days , and have you enough time for a day off , if you are not very fit .

  9. Hi,

    Too many variables, mon ami.

Type of bike, general fitness, uphill or downhill, etc.

But as I do about about an average of 10mph, or 16 kph, on & off road, I would be looking at about 4 hours, non-stop.

So say a day, with lunch thrown in !

    Bob
