How long does it take to do a split?

am trying to do the splits

i practice it every day 6 times a day.

the problem is am 6 inches from doin a perfect split

and it really hurts

my joints are hurting but i dont push my self

how long will it take to finish my right side split?

  1. Practice and time. How long it takes depends on the person. Just keep stretching, and don't strain too hard, bounce or pull. Your muscles and joints will get used to it. My gymnastics coach told us to stretch during commercials while we were watching tv. Just sit in the split as far as you can go right now and keep doing. Warming up your muscles before you stretch helps (jog in place or do some jumping jacks first), but I'm sure you know this, being a dancer and all.

    Just keep stretching and don't hurt yourself. You'll be able to do the splits eventually!


  2. Try doing straddle stretches. Those work really well. And before you try doing splits stretch. That will make you more flexible. It's different for everyone. Just keep at it and you can do it.

  3. I am a gymnist and I would just stretch for about 30 min before you try doing the splits. Good luck

  4. Don't push yourself.  I had all my splits (left, right, center) and now I'm paying for it with joint pain because I pushed it.

  5. I suggest doing a lot of stretching.  After doing the requisite stomach and leg stretches (quad pulls, reach for toes, etc etc), prepare yourself one leg at a time by doing the following:

    1.  Do a lunge for one minute

    2. Bring the leg that is in the back to the ground.  Your front leg should bend at a 90* angle and you will want to straighten out your bag leg as best as you can.  The better you get at this stretch, you can attempt to lower your torso and rest your elbows on the ground.  Do this for one minute

    3. Straighten your torso and lean back, straightening your front leg out and sitting on the leg that was just behind you.  Once you are sitting on the back leg, stretch to reach your toes.  Do this for one minute

    4.  Slide yourself into the splits and hold it at whatever distances you can go for one minute.  No matter how far down you can go, make sure that both legs are straight.

    Repeat on the other leg.  Once you have done both, lay out on the ground and relax or stand up and shake out your muscles, which may be sore.

    I hope this helps.  I also know that sometimes the best motivator is competition.  Some girls on our team were never able to do the splits outside of a meet

  6. I know how to split it does not take long just keep on stretching and try again repeat this process until you can do it good luck i believe in you!

  7. well how long do you hold it?? you have to try to push your self to the floor..  i know it will hurt trust me i have done it but its worth it! when you watching tv sit in them for 2 comericals or better yet a 30 minute show!! also sit in them while doing homework!!! hopefully this helped!!!!
