I will be driving from eastern Texas. How much time would it take to drive from the border to Mexico City? And do you think it would be worthwhile/possible to cut the trip in half by stopping in Monterrey? How long would it take to drive from Monterrey to Mexico City?

  1. Well, from Nuevo Laredo to Mexico city it is about 12 to 14 hours. I don't understand you very well (maybe my english is not good enough), when you say that stopping in Monterrey would it cut the half the trip; I don't know where are you coming from (Houston, San Antonio,?). From Nuevo Laredo, Monterrey is too close. To cut by half the trip (starting in Nuevo Laredo) you should stay in San Luis Potosí.

From Monterrey to México are about 10 or 12  hours. From San Luis Potosí 5 or 6 hours.

  2. like 2 days

  3. See map and info below. I find this to be the best site to use for Mexico.  However, it is always too short on the time...need to add about 3 hrs to be realistic.  you would also need to buy a Mexican road atlas...the Guia Roji...see 2nd site...you can order it from Amazon.com.  Monterrey is only 3 hrs form the border, so not a good stopping place.  Ciudad Victoria would be good.  You would need a Mexican car permit...see 3rd site.  Also, Mexican car insurance...see 4th site for my favorite.  now..if you have not driven in Mexico before, it can be very challenging.  You might find you would be happier taking the bus.  Mexican buses are luxurious and cheap.  you can take a bus all the way fromMcAllen to mexico City...safer, happier.  And you certainly do NOT want to drive in Mexico City.  See next site for a sample...for Senda bus line...price is $75.oo from McAllen to Mexico City.  There are several other lines that also make this trip...many departures everyday.  you could cal the station in McAllen for more info as it is difficuot to find on line.  See last site.  youcould probably also get connections from Houston.  It is cheaper and safer to take the bus.  You would definetly need to allow 2 days to drive as you CANNOT drive after sunset in Mexico due to poor road conditions and animals on the road...so you would have hotel expense too.

  4. Monterrey is about 400 miles from Houston.  From Monterrey to Mexico City is another 450 miles.  How long it takes depends on too many things to list.  It ain't the US.

  5. I think 4 to 6 hours depending on your speed.

  6. FROM MC. ALLEN TOMONTERREY IS ABOUT THREE HOURS, IF YOU TAKE THE PRIVATE PAYING HIGHWAY, YOULL BE IN MEXICO CITY FROM MONTERREY ABOUT SEVEN HOURS, BUT DONT DRIVE AT 65 MILES PER HOUR, NOBODY DOES IT, THE DRIVERS WILL GET MAD SEEING A SLOW DRIVER SO BE PREPARE TO GO AT LEAST 90 MILES PER HOUR. JUST MAKE THE ECCUATION FROM MILES TO KILOMETER.

  7. Two days.  If you want to stop part way San Luis Potosi is the place.   There is not much between there and Mexico City.

Driving too late at night is very difficult due to very heavy truck traffic on that road, so you can't make very good time.

  8. i live in the border, in texas and its usually a 24 hour road trip non stop (just stop to change drivers), i would say take 2 days if you are also stopping at monterrey
