it depends from which city you are departing and how many hours you are going to drive per day

when dad do that, he takes approx. 4 to 5 days

From the Texas border, driving only in the daytime, about 5 days.  It is challenging, but certainly can be done.

When I was a kid, we went from Guatemala City, to Dallas Texas, in about 4 days. It may be long but is a fun drive.
