  1. I know this is going to sound funny to you, but from someone who has done the drive before I would stay in the US for as long as possible. Seriously, the tolls are so outrageous and there are so many problems with the cops and bad roads that it isn't worth it. Drive to Texas and cross there and drive to Mexico City. The website for transportation that will give you directions, estimate tolls, and mileage is www.sct.gob.mx (Secretary of Communications and Transportation). Click on traza la ruta. You need to know Mexican states and cities in Mexico for starting and ending points. Mileage is in kilometers, and tolls are in pesos. There is a time estimate but it is incredibly optimistic.

If you elect to not take my advice about driving to Texas, then cross in Nogales. The road that goes along the Arizona border is like a demilitarized zone. Everyone you see has an Uzzi, except you.

  2. We live near Yosemite, as a family of 5 driving a Ford Focus,

we drove first to Bakersfield, then across Azizona, then to New Mexico. In TX we went El Paso to Sonora. From Sonora we went to Eagle Pass. Here we crossed at Piedras Negras. Pedras Negras we followed 57 to Mexico City. This is about 12 hours. This was a quality highway for Mexico, very safe, 4 lane divided hwy. The tolls were about a little excessive. if you go to sec de transporte en mexico y trazar tu ruta you can get all the info about the times and tolls.

  3. Bullsh... last two answers.

You'd make around 36 hours non stop or 48 if you stop and sleep somewhere.

If so, you'd have to drive all the way to Mazatlan or Tepic the first day in order to reach Mexico City the second day.

  4. Well there is tons of people that drive their RV,s every winter thru the west coast of Mexico all the way to Puerto Vallarta, do you think poeple will dare to drive such a long distance if the road was that bad? offourse is not the awesome interstate highway system you have in the US but is not a war zone,

Is a 27 hour drive non stop, so if you want to get there fast you will drive like 14 hours straight one day and 13 hours the

    next day

Or you can make a trip staying one day at Mazatlán, see around, then drive to Guadalajara, stay one day see around go to Tlaquepaque and downtown Guadalajara, and then to the Big city.
