How long does it take to find a minimum wage job, on average?

I'm just a college student, looking to make some money on the side.

The thing is, I have a job right now, that's really been going downhill in the past few weeks, after about five months. I've put in applications at about 15 different places and counting, and I am so d**n tempted to just hand in my two weeks notice, but I should wait until I have something else lined up. I would think my chances are fairly good, I have a pretty open schedule, (everything except Tuesday and Thursday), and am only asking for minimum wage, even though I make more at my current job. Is it worth the risk or should I wait until I have something lined up for sure? I hate being unemployed, makes me feel so useless.

  1. One day if you look to the right places. Hospitals and nursing homes are one place to look before the fast food route.

  2. keep the job you have now until you get a new one , it can take months to get a new job , especially if you have some standards , like the tues and thurs thing , or want to be in a certain general location ... i needed to stay in town last time i needed work and it took 4 months to find something decent

  3. Never, ever quit a job until you have a new one lined up. Is there anything you can do besides general labor? I ask this as my daughter, while at college, in the evenings got a qualification as an Emergency Medical Technician. She even convinced the school it was useful to her economics degree so they considered it as part of her tuition through an exchange program with a  local community college.

After 200 hours of internship, you can make up to $15.00 per hour. Generally you would work one or two 24 hour shifts a week and you get to spend half of it sleeping if you want. ANd you get to ride in ambulances with lights and sirens running. Its a real high.

  4. That kind of depends on how crappy the job..

  5. a day

  6. You should wait for another job first.  I'm sure you'll hear back from someone eventually.  When school reopens try to get something on campus if something in a retail place fails.

  7. Wait until you get the new hire.  Don't jump from the ship into the burning water.  The exception would be if the job you currently have makes you do something illegal, they abuse you, you are doing something that may harm you, etc.....  Then quit immediately.  If you just hate the job stick it out for a week or two.  Do your best and don't  burn bridges.  I'm a manager and the bridge you burn may be the one you need later.  I've seen it happen time and time again.  That reference phone call becomes  your current manager s******g you over instead of a call giving you a nice review.  You don't have to kiss ****.  Just do you best at what reasonable task they give you.

  8. Wow!! with the way the economy is going I would say up to three weeks. That is looking everyday and depending on you abilities. Good luck.

  9. If you are dedicated to it, it shouldn't take more than a few days, but the economy (both locally and nationally) will have an effect on the job prospects in your area.
