How long does it take to find out if you made it into the police academy?

My husband just completed his testing for the Mesa PD in Arizona. They did 2 interviews, a physical fitness test, a written test and a polygraph test. All of the tests they were told after if they passed and if they could go to the next round of testing. My husband made it through all, but on the polygraph they said nothing looked to be wrong but they could not let him know at that time if he was accepted or not because it had to go under further review. None of the applicants found out that day if they passed or were told if they got into the academy. I have heard it can take months to find out.

Does anyone know what time line to expect and if the 2-3 months is accurate? Thanks!

  1. I would guess soon and it depends on on how many people they need to hire. If alto of people re leaving the department then you should get the call soon. good luck be safe.

  2. I would say at a minimum 3months.  Some agencies can take up to a year.  There are so many checks and rechecks and boards that look at the test results.  There are background checks that can take up most of the time, with the agency requesting previous work contact, home visits and neighbor visits to really find out about the person that has the application in.

In short, be patient and let them do there thing.  If your husband is a good, honest, hard working person and hasn't done anything felonious.....you should be in good shape.

    Good luck.

  3. Several months
