  1. hi if you do an open water it takes 3 to 4 days if you are going to pattaya the best shop would be sea duction costs about 6000 baht best money you will spend

  2. In Thailand, there's 2 major scuba diving and teaching associations, PADI and NAUI. I'd got an open water certification from PADI. However, based on my past 3 years experiences in diving, you can take a scuba course from any teacher from one of those associations or any of accredited ones.

There're many diving schools as well as freelance instructors over here in Thailand. You can easily find them at many major cities like Pattaya, Bangkok, Koh Tao, or Phuket.

Typically, you may take up to 4 days to complete the required open-water skills in the swimming pool. The Open water is kinda begining level of scuba course. There are also some upper levels like advance, rescue, or dive master etc.

Check this out for more Info about The PADI System of Diving Education

This is some example of scuba courses from PADI.

Then the instructor will take you the sea to certify and if you pass, you'll get a diving certification which allows you to dive in many dive sites around the world.

I can say that it's not diffecult for a woman, not at all. Once you're underwater, everyone is equal. Heavy tank or scuba suite?, in the water, I think the weight doesn't matter.

Here is more useful info about scuba diving in Thailand. You can search diving sites and find of the standard cost of scuba lessons befor you take any course.

    Welcome to the underwater world!

PS. I usually go diving around 3 times a year. My friends and I usually go to Similan, Koh Tao and south Andaman. I've planed to take some more advance scuba course in the future. Perhaps, we can see each other in some diving trips. :)

  3. Here in Thailand the course is scheduled for 4 days. This does not mean that you are limited to that time. You learn at a rate that suits you.

Koh Tao is the most popular place to learn. The sites are beautiful and the sea is generally calm and clear.

As for the gender question, it is a male dominated sport, but women tend to be better at it. They breathe less and multi-task better.

If you would like a steady intro at your own pace go to www.padi.com and click on the e-learning link. This allows you to do the classroom part at home. More time to relax.

You might like to try Planet Scuba, Koh Tao.
