I have my permanent residency and I will be going with the appropriate documentation to the Service Canada office to get my SIN. My question is, will they give me the SIN at that time, or do I have to wait for processing and mailing after I apply?

  1. I applied for mine and got it a few weeks later. Not too bad at all.

  2. As soon as you go to the office and fill out the documents, you will be issued a SIN.  It will be on a piece of paper for you to take home and use immidiately if you need to.  The actual card with the SIN on it will come in the mail in 4-6 weeks.

I just went through the process last September.

  3. It is hard to say. You have to check it out yourself.here is some useful information for your question might be helpful.
