How long does it take to get a PhD on a specific specialization?

I've heard it takes at least 10 to 11 years, but I guess it would depend on your specializing in. And after you do get a PhD, do you even get more money? I've heard that you must take another additional year before you can get a superior job, such as advanced research.

  1. It depends on your specialization. I am getting a PhD in education and it will take 3 years including summers. You are not guaranteed to get more money with a PhD. It needs to be relevant to your job before you get a pay increase.
