How long does it take to get a U.S. passport?

We are in Arizona. How many months in advance of a trip do I need to apply for one?

  1. Regular service which is $100, takes 4-6 weeks.  Rush service takes 2-3 weeks and that is $160.  Most not all but most post offices have passport applications.

    Just remember you can not make an appointment with your local passport agency unless you have 14 days or less until travel.  They can get you a passport in as little as a day.  The agencys are not the post office though.

    At this time, we are processing routine applications in less than four weeks from the time of application.  We are processing requests for expedited service in two weeks door-to-door*.

  3. As for how long it takes to get your passport, it all depends. They say 4-6 weeks. However, I received mine within a week and for others it took 2 months or more.

    I would plan to apply for a passport at least 6 months before you plan to go out of the country to be on the safe side.

  4. About 6- 8 weeks and if you want one sooner you have to pay extra $$$.
