  1. If you have gotten your petition back signed off by the Judge and Prosecutor's Office with the Clerk of Courts' seal, that is the actual order to expunge your record.

    Look at the date on the seal. It takes roughly 3 to 4 months in most misdemeanor cases and up to 1 year on felony cases to go completely through the various levels and erase the records from public view.

    Those are maximum time elements. In most circumstances, 6 months is the normal optimum. You can request your background check starting at the 6 month period to see if it has made it through.

  2. You can have certain things "sealed from the public", but I'm pretty sure it will always be there in the shadows, especially if you make a mistake again.

    I don't think it really ever goes away for good.
