I recently had a package sent by Fed-ex from the US to the UK and was told it would take 6-10 days. I received it within the week so I guess it can depend on how packages are sent from the US and what you pay for the postage.

Depends on how much money you throw at it.Priority Mail takes 6-10 days,  Express International about 5. Or, for maybe 5-10 times as much mone, you can get it there up to overnight.
