How long does it take to get a passport for a new born baby?

We are South African citizens and have a newborn baby in London, and would like to know how long it would take before you are able to travel with a new born baby to South Africa. Bare in mind the baby is a South African citizen

  1. You shouldn't fly with a baby anyway until they are at least 3 months old and perfectly healthy.  It's not good for them.  Most countries don't require passports for young babies, as long as the parents have them, or the mother may need to have a new passport with the baby listed, and maybe even in the picture....check the policy/rules on ages for S.A.
