How long does it take to get an appointment at US Embassy in London?

I understand that the US Embassy in London now operates on an appointment only basis. You have to ring (an extortionately expensive) telephone number in order to make one. Does anyone know how quickly they can set an appointment? I have to travel to USA in 4 weeks and need to hand in my GC (long story!).

Right now, it's 19 days for a visa interview appointment, then three days to get the passport and visa back.  Keep up with the backlog here:

If you are from the U.K., you can gain entry into the U.S. through the visa waiver program.  Once in the U.S., you can surrender your greencard.
