How long does it take to get an indian visa?

What is the present waiting time from applying to getting your passport returned?

We have a flight booked for the 14th of Aug and return on the 27th Jan 09 therefore we cannot apply until the 1st Aug so that our 6 month visa is long enough!

They say to allow 4-6 weeks for your visa by post.

However, if you go to a local travel agent that specialises in flights to India they usually have a visa service there and it takes 1 week. Just  fill out the forms, pay the fees and pick up the following week.

They are pretty good, but make sure it's one that's been in business for while!

It use to be a same day service. You go to the Indian high commision in the morning. If you are succesfull then they will give you a time to return to pick your passport.

I think its now the next day though.

A lot of travel agents will charge £10 - £20 extra and will get the visa for you. You still need to pay the visa fee, but it saves your time.

Either way though, you have plenty of time.
