How long does it take to get contacts after the 1st appointment?

I have a contact lens appointment tomorrow and i was wondering how much longer after that does it take to get them because i would like them before school and orientation.

Unless your prescription is just really high (like mine, -6.50 in each eye), they will most likely have at least a couple of trial pairs for you the day of the appointment.

Provided your contact prescription is one the optomotrist carries on hand, you will more than likely go home with a pair of contacts on your first visit, especially if you're going for soft disposable lenses.  Even if they have to order your strength of lense you'll probably go home with a trial pair that's close to your strength to let your eyes adjust to wearing contacts.

It used to be with hard contacts that you'd have to wait a week or two for the order and then you had to gradually build up your wearing time going back periodically to have your eyes checked to make sure they were adapting.

You might have to go back once for the doctor to recheck your eyes for fit and whether you're blinking enough to keep your eyes oxygenated and your contacts continue to float in the proper placement over your pupil for maximum correction.

They'll give you a trial pair, then about a week later you will go back. Sometimes they have to order them, which takes up to another week, or they have them in stock. They always have to order mine.

You usually get your contact lenses the day of the fitting.  That begins the trial period.  If you don't like the ones they give you, you get different ones until you find the right ones.

Don't get frustrated if you can't get them in or out right away.  It takes practice.
