How long does it take to get from Chicago Midway to O'Hare Airport and vice versa?

I'm leaving the country this summer which can be pricey. I had a free round trip ticket to fly anywhere in the US through Southwest. I saw that Chicago has the cheapest flight internationally so I was planning on flying to Chicago through Southwest. I didn't realize that there are two airports in Chicago. My Southwest flight is in Midway and my international flight is in O'Hare. How much time in between should I leave between the two flights to get to one airport to the next and still make my flight on time? I'm thinking about using Omega Shuttle or the train.

  1. You can do this a couple of ways..

If you take the train, you would take the Orange to the Blue Line, you will transfer at the Clark/Lake stop. Since the CTA isn't all that reliable I would give yourself a good hour - for stops, people working on the tracks, and whatever else may be happening. It will take perhaps 20-30 mins to get to downtown from the Orange and about 30-40 mins to get to O'Hare from Downtown.

You can also take a cab. This will be the more costly way of the two options, but it might be quicker. You could probably get to O'hare from Midway within 45 mins.

And as you mention, there may be a shuttle. I am not sure how long it would take you by shuttle, but I'm sure if you made some quick calls, you can find out pretty easily.

  2. Depends on what time you're going.

Train is the best bet.  Take the Orange Line at Midway and transfer to the Blue Line which will take you directly to O'Hare.  Travel time is approx. 30-40 minutes.
