How long does it take to get from Madrid, SP to Rome, IT on the trains and driving?

We are looking to travel between the two cites and are tryin to geta better idea on the time it will take. We would prefer the cheapest or quickest way.

These are night trains so you ha to stay half a day in Paris (not the worst thing in the world!) an you trip, without the stop-over, is at about 28 hours.

By car I think is about the same time, a day or more, of non-stop driving. Not the safest option.

From 23 february 2007 Easyjet will fly you from Madrid to Rome in a couple of hours for 20 Euro plus taxes.
