  1. there is only 1 type of sect 8..there is also public housing which is also thru housing and urban dev. that waiting list usually isn't as long. Waiting list on Sect 8 here is 4-6 months , in CA its 15-20 years,  so I would not expect it to happen anytime soon... being a single parent will give preferential status as will her income but if she quits work, it's going to hurt her.. There are also several complexes that are based on income that she might check on. www.hud.gov, on left hand side. click renting, and then go from there follow screen..it will list different places that are low income. (or should).

  2. 6 months to a year

  3. depends

Section 8 vouchers are given out in areas,

and some areas have long waiting lists and others don't

  4. I know California has quite a homeless problem, as a result I imagine the waiting list for Section 8 is considerable.  But the only way you can find out is to make some calls and ask.  It really vaires so much by area that the only people who can tell you for sure are the people who make the decisions.

You could also see what the HUD situation is in your area, those homes are usually less expensive and the loans are typically low interest.

  5. it really depends go down to the housing departments or called them my friend is waiting on section 8 but if someone in the family is disabled or does not really have good income you can get it sooner

i never do this but do you think you can help me with mine? nobody answers and its an easy question..thanks
