I want to work and travel in the US from September 2009 to July or August 2009.

How long, approximately, does it take until I get my visa?

  1. "your" visa? you talk like it is a sure thing lol.

First of all, July/August 2009 come before September 2009. You have your dates mixed up.

Assuming you work in a specialty occupation that even qualifies for a visa, you will need to have your employer file an H-1B petition for you on April 1st, 2009, which will cost them about $5000 with the attourney/filing fees. If it gets randomly selected and approved as part of the lottery (you only have a 30% chance of getting one), you will be allowed to start working on October 1, 2009. Otherwise, you can look into other potential visa categories like H-2B for temporary seasonal work or B1/B2.

  2. You need to provide more information.  What type of Visa are you applying for?  Have you already sent in the paperwork?  Have you received any response from Immigration Services, like a receipt number?

Here's a link that describes Processing Times and Case Status on the USCIS website:

  3. You don't have a chance. Too young, no work experience, no employment and probably a lack of valuable education to add into the mix.

Start looking elsewhere. No-one is going to go through the lengthy expense to hire you for a single year and jobs like this are deemed casual and thus are ones where no education is required and do not fit the criteria.

Look at programs such as BUNAC. They are your best chance or perhaps Australia and Canada on a working holiday visa.
